Crafty DIY Holiday Card Garland & Display

Christmas cards hanging on a string with colorful branches and leaves being held by clothes pins
Holiday cards are one of my favorite traditions. I don’t know about you, but we rarely get letters the rest of the year, and so December is about the only time I look forward to getting the mail. Because I enjoy them so much, I, like most people, hold onto the cards throughout the entire holiday season, letting them fill me with holiday cheer, while also doubling as holiday decorations. That’s why this DIY holiday card craft was such a fun activity for my family. We created a DIY holiday card display using our favorite OOLY products and upcycling natural materials we collected on our walks! The result is a holiday craft that is both beautiful AND functional! Time Duration: 30-60 minutes Skill Level: Intermediate OOLY Products Needed: Other Items Needed:
  • Scissors (adult supervision required)
  • Glue stick/gun (adult supervision required)
  • String/thread
  • Wooden clothes pins
Directions:
Step 1: Gather all your craft supplies! If you haven’t already, have the kiddos go outside and collect some leaves and sticks. I recommend finding sticks with leaves already on them to make it easier to piece together at the end. You can always tie the leaves to the sticks, but if you can avoid it, I would!
Step 2: Once you have your natural materials collected, it’s time to give them a colorful makeover using Lil’ Poster Paint Pods - Classic to paint the sticks and leaves. My kids loved picking out whatever color they wanted. Once your leaves and sticks are painted, let them dry completely.
Step 3: While the sticks and leaves are drying, move on to painting the wooden clothes pins using the Lil’ Poster Paint Pods - Classic. Allow these to dry completely as well.
Step 4: As your holiday cards arrive, feel free to let creative juices flow and add your own flair! My kids glued some of the photo cards to White DIY Cover Sketchbook paper, creating a border that they then decorated with fun holiday Stickiville stickers such as Snow Friends, Here Comes Santa and Christmas Cookies.
Step 5: Once your leaves and sticks are dry, measure the space you are planning to hang the display - mine was about 2 feet long. Cut a length of string based on this measurement. Then begin tying the sticks to the string as shown and tie the leaves to the stick if needed.
Step 6: Hang your string up with the colorful branches hanging down. Use your newly painted clothes pins to attach your holiday cards to the branches. Voila! This holiday card display DIY is now ready to take your holiday decor to the next level. Whether your display is monochromatic, a traditional red and green, or full rainbow, you’ll love the natural feels and holiday cheer this craft brings. It really is one of the most fun holiday nature crafts you can do with your kids! – Craft blog by Danitzia Singh, @themomtessorilife on Instagram. We would love to see photos of your craft projects!
