Ready to embark on a creative ocean adventure? Dive into a fun, engaging, and educational STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) craft project using the vibrant OOLY Color Layers Markers! These colorful dual-tip layering markers are perfect for adding both broad strokes and fine details, making them ideal for this coloring underwater-themed craft puzzle. This hands-on learning activity for kids is perfect for sparking imagination and curiosity, let’s get started.
Time Duration: 20 minutes
Skill Level: Beginning
Other Items Needed:
- Scissors (adult supervision required)
Directions:
Step 1: To start, encourage your child to imagine the ocean world they are about to create. Then, on your White DIY Cover Sketchbook, color the background with shades of blue and green using the Color Layers Markers chisel tip base end of the marker.
Step 2: Now, let your imagination swim! Use the point tip end of your Color Layers Markers to draw sea creatures, fish, coral and maybe even a sunken treasure chest. Experiment with the markers by layering colors, details and patterns on your fish to add depth and texture. Notice how bright the top layers are on top of the base layer - no muddled colors!
Step 3: Once your underwater scene is complete, it's time to turn it into a puzzle. Number the right side of your page from top to bottom in sequential order (in this case we did skip counting). The number of pieces will depend on how challenging you want your puzzle to be; more pieces mean a trickier puzzle-solving experience!
Step 4: With your page numbered, use scissors to cut horizontally along these lines. Each cut creates a narrow strip, transforming your artwork into puzzle pieces.
Step 5: Now the fun begins! Have your child reassemble the ocean scene using their math, logic and reason, and problem solving skills. Mix them up and have them do it over and over again!
This STEAM craft is a fantastic way to combine fun with learning. This project not only helps in developing fine motor skills but also stimulates imagination and encourages exploration of the natural world.
